I am a graduate school professor and guidance counselor in one of the biggest state universities in the Philippines--Philippine Normal University Visayas. It is a member of a network of five teacher education university campuses around the country. As a professor, I have taught research classes (both quantitative and qualitative) and have published in local and international journals. I have also attended various research conferences abroad like Ireland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the UK (sponsored by FLE Learning at the University of Oxford in Winter 2015-2016).
I have 25 years of experience as a faculty and counselor and am very interested in the fields of social science, psychology and guidance and counseling. I have also been involved in many psychosocial interventions for survivors of man-made and natural disasters that happened in the country, the Philippines being located in the Pacific Ring of Fire and is prone to many disasters.
As a mental health professional, I have organized and formed a professional organization of guidance counselors called the Negros Occidental Guidance and Counseling Association, eventually becoming its founding president in 2009.
I am a member of professional organizations like the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, Psychological Association of the Philippines and the Southeast Asian Association of Institutional Researchers.
As an academic, i have mentored a lot of graduate school students writing their master's and PhD level papers, acted as peer reviewer in our university's research journal and served as panel in various theses and dissertation defense. I became a part-time professor in research in three other Universities in the Philippines--University of St. La Salle, La Consolacion College, and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos. Presently, I am the head of the Guidance and Counseling Services of my university and am conducting research, doing training and facilitating groups.
As a guidance counselor, I served as the editor-in-chief of our local publication called The Counselor's Desk from 1995-2008.
I am a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, a religious order under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church.
